Educators Practising Hip Hop In and Outside of the Classroom

HHH Til Infinity! (a recap)

,

To many casual listeners, Rap and Hip Hop are synonymous. However, the “real heads” know that Rap is only one small part of Hip Hop culture. In fact, Hip Hop is generally accepted as being comprised of 9 elements. To spread such awareness, it is crucial to have movements like “Hip Hop ‘Til Infinity” which had its second showcase on Saturday September 28th in Oshawa Memorial Park. This annual event, created by Tanika iNsight, is designed to celebrate and educate on Hip Hop as a whole.

All elements were manifested with DJs In the Cut & Baby T. on the 1s and 2s; Breakers True & Illz breaking down Breakin’; live Graffiti Art by Adrian Hayles; Beatboxing by Killa Beats; and several MCs including iNsight, Testament, Truly Melanin, Qodesh, Najjah, Nilla, Ra Soul and more.

The African roots of Hip Hop were honoured with the steady heartbeat presence of Drum with Negus as well as oral tradition folk tales. Other elements like Knowledge, Fashion and Language were spoken of while Entrepreneurism was in effect via the many vendors from local businesses.

Headucator, MikeAll, was blessed to participate by performing his collabo with Testament and iNsight (“G.R.A.C.E.”) plus solo song, “Hip Hop Hustle”.

Shout out to Wizekrak for filming footage (above) and Laz-G for supporting in the crowd. While it was hype to perform, it was even more exciting to witness all of Hip Hop on full display. Plus, Wizekrak and MikeAll got to meet the legendary Rascalz’ Red One who was part of the audience. The Headucatorz look forward to next year and getting more involved in this cause. Overall, it is essential to make space for all elements to be represented as it keeps Hip Hop authentic and “this culture connected!”

PEACE
