Reading for the Love of It is the largest literacy conference in Canada. Teachers, educators, librarians, and anyone interested in promoting literacy and inspiring the youth can come to experience a wide variety of speakers and workshops. We present two workshops for educators at this event.
Hip Hop Edutainment by Hip Hop Headucatorz (A practical workshop)
Explore how the use of Hip Hop in the classroom impacts students’ reading comprehension, creative writing, and oral communication skills. This practical workshop is aimed at educators working with students of all ages. Participants will get a free resource they can use to bring Hip Hop into their instruction. Even if you know nothing about rap music, you will walk away with tips and resources that you can use.
Rap music is one of the biggest juggernauts of our time. Its influence is found in almost every aspect of popular culture. Many of your students listen to rap music daily and identify with that style and way of life. If you can bring this into your instruction, you can show students that they are truly seen. We’ve seen how students resonate with this style of instruction.
It’s nice to see an event like this one embracing Hip Hop. It is more than just music. It can be a powerful tool for any educator and we will show you how.
